What is the Southern Center for Urban Forestry Research & Information?

The Southern Center for Urban Forestry Research & Information (SCUFRI) is a cooperative effort that integrates Forest Service Research, State and Private Forestry and the National Forest Systems, and works closely with the Southern Center for Wildland-Urban Interface Research & Information, universities, State forestry agencies, Cooperative Extension Service, non-profit organizations and others to meet the needs of customers in the south.

In 1997, the Southern Research Station and Southern Region of the USDA Forest Service (Atlanta) responded to emerging issues related to: Changing land use patterns,

Loss of forest canopy,

Increased urbanization,

Changing demographics,and created the Southern Center for Urban Forestry Research and Information. The SCUFRI is located on the UGA Campus in Athens, Georgia.
